Go Back Pottery and Poetry: The Works of Three Nigerian Ceramics Artists

Contemporary Nigerian art has a new crop of ceramics artists, who are attempting to give ceramics a new voice. This is in the form of taking ceramics art to the same pedestal that painting and sculpture occupy, by giving it conceptual energy. Among these artists are Chris Echeta, Tony Umunna and Ozioma Onuzulike. In their efforts to elevate ceramics art, by experimentation, poetry is implicated in their works. In this paper, one will attempt to isolate elements of poetry in their works and discuss how these elements help to shape their works.
