Go Back Chris Afuba's Ceramic 'Head' Sculptures

This paper discusses the works of Chris Afuba, member of the notable AKA Circle of Exhibiting Artists and an important Nigerian sculptor, who uses the traditional ceramic production techniques of pinching and coiling to create his series of terracotta “heads”. It analyses and interprets the sculptor's materials, methods and central theme and proposes that Afuba has approached his materials and production technology in ways that have not only emphasized the materiality of his medium (by the preservation of his creative processes) but have also projected his satirical commentaries and political critiques.
