Go Back Ceramic 'Painting': A Studio Inquiry


The emphasis often placed on ceramics as a source of ornamental and domestic wares seems to obscure its value for wider creative expressions. This research addresses that misconception by undertaking an exploration of the painting potentials of clay, oxides, glazes and ceramic pigments. The results have proven that the Nigerian ceramic materials have much to offer beyond what has been designated to it. Local artists particularly painters, in their bid for artistic pursuit, will find ceramics a veritable alternative to their conventional media. As it has been the practice in many developed countries of the world, Nigeria, with her rich heritage of ceramic materials, should be able to benefit bountifully from the resources with the exploration the potentials of ceramics as a medium for painterly expressions.
