Go Back Chris Echeta in Conversation: Ceramics in the Nigerian National Gallery of Art Collection

This interview arose from a commission in early 2007 by Dr. Chika Okeke-Agulu, editor of a proposed revised edition of The Nucleus (catalogue of the collections of the National Gallery of Art, Lagos) to provide texts that illuminate the work of important artists whose works are in the national collection. Unfortunately, the proposed publication ran into hitches and was never realized till date. This interview has been left in its initial form, as conducted in April 2007. In conversation, Chris Echeta spoke about how his ceramic sculptures were collected by the National Gallery, their form and subject matter in relation to his educational background and early studio practice. He also reflected on other issues related to his practice and on the bad state of works in the national collection.
